Graphing Calculators for local High School

Our club wanted to do something to help local high school students. After research and discussions with the Hillsboro School District, we learned that all of the advanced math classes have to share graphing calculators required to participate in class. This meant that students from lower income families might struggle to get homework done due to either the inability to purchase these expensive calculators, or the unavailability of a classroom calculator. We applied for, and received, a matching $1500 grant from Rotary District 5100. With $3000.00 to spend, we were able to purchase 34 graphing calculators. These were distributed to all of the local high schools, which were all grateful to receive them. One student came up to us and said “Thank you so much. Now maybe we won’t have to share.”
