Meals on Wheels and Donate Dinner
This annual event involves club members giving 2 hours of their time to hand out fliers at local supermarkets, asking for customers to donate money. Donate Dinner provides shoppers at 32 independent grocery stores the opportunity to “donate dinner” to a homebound senior when they shop for their Thanksgiving meal. Last year shoppers donated $225,000 – that’s 30,864 meals! Through this one day annual event we donate 20 hours to Meals on Wheels.
How does it work? Our team of Rotarians greets customers as they enter a store and hand them a Donate Dinner card that explains how their donation will help Meals on Wheels People provide meals for seniors. If customers choose to donate, they simply add the cost of one or more meals to their grocery bill when they check out. It’s easy, its fun, and we get to help Seniors in our community!
And for those times in between each Thanksgiving holiday and the Donate Dinner opportunity, the local center in Hillsboro gives each of us a myriad of ways to service our community. Volunteer opportunities, or just more information, for the local Meals on Wheels’ center may be found here.
